5280 Magazine has a great article summarizing many of the primary water use issues which affect Colorado, California, Arizona, Utah, & Nevada.  What we like so much about this review is that it provides a comprehensive summary of key topics such as; Population & Watershed, Colorado Water Law, Water Rights & State Compacts, Recreation, Infrastructure, and Water Quality.

Especially notable is the description of the City of Aurora's inventive water recharge plan to recirculate City water through the South Platte river.  Ready by the end of this year, Aurora's new plan will provide City residents and additional 10,000 acre-feet - a necessity for a growing municipality.  The Prairie Waters project may act as a model for additional eastern slope cities, as Colorado Springs is already planning a similar project.
